The power of being specific and how networking can help!

Networking is an excellent opportunity to meet other like-minded people in the business world. It’s a chance to help and support other businesses by providing reliable referrals, a chance to bring more clients to your own business, and a place to sound out ideas. Of course, networking offers far more than those things, but they’re a start. One way to ensure your own venture can benefit from networking is to be very specific when mentioning the clients you’re looking for. In fact, the more specific, the better. The likelihood is someone around the table (or the screen!) will know who you’d like to talk to and will put you in touch. This morning’s meeting was very specific, leaving many members able to help each other out.

The theme of networking continued into the education slot. For almost a year now, meetings have been held online, meaning everyone has been separated from each other by a screen, be it phone, laptop, or desktop. Over this time, many may have developed nerves about returning to networking in person, not from a safety perspective, but from one of confidence. So, before we all step into an in-person networking meeting again, perhaps consider the following: be open to meeting new people, ask questions that require longer, more detailed answers, and listen — be curious about others, their work, and their lives. Don’t let your self-talk get you down.

Subject Access Requests were the focus in this week’s presentation, given by Dr. Sam Linton of Aeonian Projects. Members found out the various reasons people make SAR requests and the implications of receiving one as a business owner. Clearly, it struck a chord as questions came from all corners, and thankfully, Sam was on hand to provide the answers!
