Sometimes, it’s not what you know, but who you know!

BRBN Who you know (3)

This week, the group welcomed a new member and a visitor. It’s excellent to see the group expanding, and expansion is good evidence of how successful — and enjoyable — networking can be!

The more diverse the group, the better for members. It results in more connections, more referrals and a more extensive network to draw upon when you (or someone you know) needs help, advice, or some work doing! We can easily forget about the final point: the web of individuals we are all a part of. This week’s education slot brought it into focus.

It’s not just who you know but who they know that’s important. That said, a business network isn’t just about connections to people (though that is extremely important), but also about their skills and experience, which often are very different from yours. If you need a bit of help or advice in a particular sector or someone with a specific skill set, chances are you’ll find someone within your network who can assist you, and the likelihood is they’ll be far more knowledgeable and experienced in their field that you.

Later in the session, members enjoyed a presentation from Dave Tunstall of East Riding Wills. Dave showed the group some interesting statistics on Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney. It gave the group a greater awareness of how clarity in will writing is essential and how easily it can become complicated. Echoing the above, Dave recommended contacting a professional when you want to write a will. Better safe than sorry.
