Subbing isn’t just for football. BRBN learns how business benefits too.

BRBN 14 July (2) (Medium)

Although the Euro 2020 final wasn’t what many were hoping for, BRBN still managed to bring a positive angle from a negative outcome. Negative for some, that is!

As in football games the world over, England manager Gareth Southgate selected several substitutes to participate in the game. Similarly, we use reserves in networking to try to ensure each business has a representative even if the main group member is absent.

Subbing (in a business setting) requires confidence, and it works two ways. Subs need confidence in what they’re going to say, and members need confidence in their reserve to do a good job. Having substitutes not only benefits individual business owners but the group at large too. They provide a wider net for referrals and may even be looking for services from within the group! So it benefits the whole group to look for suitable subs.

Dave Tunstall took centre stage for the business in focus this week. Dave gave the group an informal talk about his hobbies and interests when he’s not busy running his company, East Riding Wills. As always, it was fascinating to learn more about the individual behind the business and consequently get to know them — in this case, Dave — as a person rather than just a job title.

A short 1-2-1 session followed Dave’s presentation. Participants were invited into breakout rooms to discuss mutual topics of interest. Breakout rooms as a networking tool are very popular. They provide an ideal opportunity to get to know someone further or ask specific questions regarding their pitch or their business in general.

Next week members look forward to another next face to face meeting, a chance to network in person that many will relish.
