Can business learn lessons from the sporting world? BRBN finds out.
21/12/2021

The penultimate meeting of the year was an online one, and, by all accounts, December was a busy month for many in the group. There was plenty of good news, too, as members related their children’s sporting achievements or small successes in their businesses.
This week’s education feature focused on the F1 results from the previous weekend. Although F1 racing is a far cry from the world of business, mindset is still important. Neither competitor for the Championship title was complacent, but many spectators were perhaps not just hopeful but confident that Lewis Hamilton would win. Not so. Max Verstappen took his first Championship title, stopping Hamilton from claiming his eighth and a new world record.
The lesson? However much training and hard work go on behind the scenes, you can never guarantee success on the day. Don’t be too sure of any outcome, but be aware of all possible ones. As the phrase goes, “don’t count your chickens before they hatch”.
BRBN’s newest member Will Harris, from Twisted Root Productions, gave the business in focus presentation. Will gave the group an excellent introduction to digital media and content marketing, what it includes and why it is effective. Will, who specialises in photography, spoke about content as a ‘marketing powerhouse’ that works by pulling an audience in rather than pushing products and services onto them. Members also saw some of Wills superb photography work that he has completed for his clients.
Next week’s meeting, the final one of 2021, will also be online due to changes in the Coronavirus pandemic.
