Following the usual round of 60 seconds "elevator pitches", Carl Spence took the floor.

At the age of 51, Carl was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, a diagnosis that took him  some time to come to terms with. Rather than dwelling on his situation, Carl decided to challenge himself by riding the Grand Depart in Brussels to give him something to focus on. He also wanted to help raise vital funds for research in the hope that one day a cure can be found. Since then, along with One Hull Of A Ride have taken the Grand Departs in Yorkshire and Copenhagen as well as organising their own ride from Hull to London which they took on in 2023.

2024 welcomed a slightly different challenge in The Netherlands.

Carl now into his 7th year, since diagnosis looks forward to the challenges that lay ahead, raising money for The Royal British Legion who provide a lifetime of care and support to the UK Armed Forces and their families.

Carl said, "2025 will see the members of One Hull Of A Ride taking on numerous fundraising events, In June we will be cycling c200 miles, climbing 5,000 ft along the coast of Normandy visiting some of the most famous beaches in our modern history, as well as visiting various memorials along the way that commemorate soldiers from the Royal Engineers. This is the regiment I served in and stopping to pay our respects to those who gave their tomorrow for our today".

BRBN members showed their respect with applause as a cheque / contribution was handed over to help carl's fundraising underway, Donating through JustGiving.  https://www.justgiving.com/page/carl-spence-1728230796752
